Resolution Proposal

After all the things Haiti citizens had passed they had survived, we have to admired them, because their lifestyles are bad and they never gave up. I really think that Haiti has another chance now, but they can't make it alone. They need our help, the world's help to develop new ideas for improve the nation. Haiti is rich in culture with many attractive things that people in the world could love.

My solution and opinion, is that Haitians may give their land to the UN. The UN can develop new programs for constructing again the land, the infraestructures, the moral and education of the citizens. The world's efforts and new ideas can fix it. They going to need money and like one year ago when Haiti suffered the bad earthquake millions of dollars appeared from other nation now they need the same help for make this ideas real. They need a brave President a new form of government that can handle situations like revolutions against the governmet or anything like that. Haiti needs a strong governmet!

Establishing a strong democratic government is a good way to start. Another good idea is to bring companies to reconstruct the buildings to impulse the economy and the people could start gaining money to maintain their families. The people of the world are disposed to help but they need a place safety to help this people. for me another idea is to put the army in Haiti. The army can maintain the control and in that way outside people can feel secure and can help more.

I think Haiti has solution to be better. The people are waiting for someone who has the idea to improve the nation. We can help, we need to stop this ways of living! Is not secure even for us, because Puerto Rico is very near to Haiti, and many diseases that are deloping in Haiti are expanding to other places and countries. We need to act and get ourselves into this situation, because by helping them we are helping us.

Human Rights Issues

Since Haiti become a country 200 years ago, human rigths were violated. The government never put things together and never developed a good democratic power to make things better for the people. Because of the different figths with their neighbors Santo Domingo, Haiti get in a banrupt. It has been taking financial help for other countries but they never make their debt better, they get in a bigger debt and the countries helping them leaved because they couldn't make much. The military troops have the power and they oppressed the people. We can said that all the rigths are being corrupted. Hati have this major problems:

  • Haiti is the third hungriest country in the world after Somalia and Afghanistan

  • The richest 1% of the population controls nearly half of all of Haiti’s wealth

  • The poorest country in the western hemisphere

  • One of the poorest countries in the world

  • Ranks 149 out of 182 on the United Nations Human Development Index

  • Has a healthy life expectancy of 55 years for women and 53 years for men

  • Adult literacy is about 62%

  • 78% of Haitians live on less than $2 US per day.

  •      Haiti was a forgotten place that didn't have solution. Last year Haiti suffered a tragedy, an earthquake occured and destroyed all the country. At that time people forgot that Haiti was a bad place with any solution and find unity with other countries to help Haiti. Now people remembered Haiti and they are helping the country to get a better life. We must help our Caribbean friends and allways remember that everyone needs a second chance.

    Background History

In December 6,1492, Columbus exploredthis land. Haiti's native Arawaks fell victims of the Spanish explores. In 1697, Haiti became the French colony of Saint-Dominique, which became a leading sugarcane producer dependent on slaves in the Americas. In1791, the slave populationincrease to aprximatelly 480,000 and started a revolution for their independency. Napoléon Bonaparte tried to suppressed the independence movement, dut he felt. In 1804, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, gave the new nation the Arawak the name of Haiti and it becomes the world's first independent black republic.

The revoution wrecked Haiti economy. Because of the war between Haitians and Santo Domingo, Haiti get in a bankrupt. To iprove its economy Haiti accept a U.S. custom reseivership from 1905 to 1941. Occupation by U.S. Marines from 1915 to 1934 brought stability. One important fact to understand why is in poverty, is that Haiti is the most densely populated nation in the Western Hemisphere.

The country was controled by the military troops of Haiti, but the people wanted a change and wanted a democratic governmet. To make it possible the people elected Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a leftist Roman Catholic pries to bring a good government to their land. The millitary troops didn't like this and took control again of Haiti. U.S. military forces that defended democracy arrived in 1994, and put in the power Aristide, but U.S. soldiers and UN peacekeepers left in 2000. Haiti's government, however, remained ineffectual and its economy was in ruins.

Haiti has the highest rates of AIDS, malnutrition, and infant mortality in the region. This is very hard to say but they are the only responsibles for their status, because the people of the country are damaging their own land and they didn't make anything to improve it. In 2000 Aristide was reelected so the people think that democracy was finally going to function, but again Aristide lost control and a revolt started again. U.S. and France tried to restore calm in the country but they couldn't do it and Haiti today still the same, like it was a 100 years ago.

After numerous delays, Haiti held elections on Feb. 7, 2006. The elections, backed by 9,000 United Nations troops, were seen as a crucial step in returning Haiti to some semblance of stability. The people doesn't like the procedures and once again they remain equal.

    Celebration of Culture

Haiti is a very religious country. The primary religion is the Catholicism, also the Protestant is one of the most popular religion in the Haiti. This land is especially known for their weird practice of voodoo or how what they call it "serving to Iwa". One important thing that we have to know is that the followres of voodoo are active members of the catholic church.

The most important celebration in the Haitian culture take place at the beginning of the religios season of the Lent, Carnival is the most popular and active festival, featuring secular music, parades, dancing in the streets, and abundant consumption of alcohol. Other festivals are: Independence Day (1 January), Bois Cayman Day (14 August, celebrating a legendary ceremony at which slaves plotted the revolution in 1791), Flag Day (18 May), and the assassination of Dessalines, the first ruler of independent Haiti (17 October).

In the topic of arts Haiti is not so advanced because of the bankrupt of the governmet, but eventough they didn't have finance support sometimes governmet gave incentives to create more masterpieces. All the haitian literature and historical papers are written in French. We can say that this culture is very smart because they can speak in French, Creole and many of them in English. Also another important fact is that the indians who lived their were Taino indians. The music is a way of expressing in Haiti and very important. The music is tropical and very varied.

Here is a video of Haiti Carnival:
